We have launched our 2014 Year Programme with all the tours to be hosted in the coming year. You can either click here and visit our website to get the details or e-mail us at info@jbtours.co.za to get a copy from us.

All the very popular tours are to be repeated again, whilst two new tours have been added as well.

We are looking forward in welcoming you on tour during 2014 – either on a train, luxury bus or flight tour. Bookings for all tours have opened, including Cape Town Jazz Festival and Two Oceans.

The 75 year old Chris Kotze from Hatfield in Pretoria, a passenger on one of our recent 7-day Namibian train tours, conquered Dune 7 just outside of Walvisbay. With this remarkable achievement he moved into 8th position on the ’oldies’ leading board as the 8th oldest person to manage to climb to the top.

The Dune is ‘only’ 80 meters high but it is a severe challenge to get to the top – many young man would be able to tell you who did not make it!

Did you send us an e-mail after you’ve received our previous month’s Newsletter enquiring about something? Did we reply to it? If NOT, our sincere apologies. Due to a technical IT problem quite a big number of e-mails were deleted – hence we could not reply. Please forward your enquiry again. Send it directly to info@jbtours.co.za and do NOT ‘reply’ on the Newsletter’s e-mail address.

The above mentioned train tour to be hosted in March 2014 is almost fully booked! One motorbike club based in Jo’burg has booked almost all the spaces on the train!

The bookings for the 2014 Argus Cycle Race train from Jo’burg to Cape Town have not opened yet. We are still battling to get proper travel dates for the train from Shosholoza Meyl.

The bookings for our very popular 2014 CPT Jazz Festival train tour, departing from Jo’burg, as well as our two different flight tour packages, have opened. In 2013 we took more than 250 passengers to CPT and all the places were sold out! Book NOW.

When any person does a booking on any of our tours, he/she will receive a letter in writing from us confirming that a booking has been made and that the tour money has been received. If you have NOT received anything from us, it means that something is wrong. It could be that your booking did not reach us; that your money has not been transferred to us; that you did not send the Booking Form and Proof of Payment to us; that our reply did not reach you, etc.

Currently we have thousands of Rands in our bank account unaccounted for! People paid money into our bank account with NO reference, NO name and NO contact details! Hence we don’t know what the money is for, to whom it belongs and for which tour it is. In practice it means that you’ve paid us but your booking on tour has NOT being secured.

Please make sure that you have received a Confirmation Letter or Letter of Acknowledgement from us. By e-mail it should be within 3 working days after you’ve sent the Booking Form to us. If not, please contact us.

One of our long standing tour guides, Mr. Joepie Bekker, rendering his capable services to many different tour operators over many years has died on Wednesday 24th July 2013 in a hospital in Pretoria of natural causes.

He is survived by his wife, Delene, and 3 children. ‘Oom Joepie’ will be missed by many people who traveled with him, be it from Soweto or Sannieshof. He was loved by all.

This month’s photo at the top of the Newsletter was taken at Muizenberg, False Bay, Cape Town.

During December of each year ’half of Namibia’ vacates in the coastal town of Swakopmund.

This popular holiday destination is a hub of activities during the December holiday period with lots of activities, festivities, fun and fair. Being located next to the Atlantic Ocean, the weather in Swakopmund is normally mild whilst the rest of the country is exposed to temperatures of 35 degrees Celcius and even more.

JB Train Tours have had many requests from locals (Namibians), ex locals (ex Namibians) and Saffas (South Africans) to host train trips from Windhoek to Swakopmund during the peak holiday season. Accommodation is scarce, limited and expensive, whilst restaurants are packed (and expensive).

All the suites on the train have got en suite bath rooms.

We have put together three successive 8-day train packages on the luxurious Desert Express train for December 2013, including the accommodation for ALL the nights on the train, as well as the majority of meals included into the tour price. The third tour, over New Year, is almost fully booked!

The three tour dates are: 16 – 23 Dec, 23 – 30 Dec & 30 Dec – 6 Jan 2014.

In Swakopmund the train is parked at the station, almost in the CBD and within walking distance of ‘everything’. Bus transport is provided (free of charge) from Windhoek Airport to the Windhoek Railway station for passengers ‘flying in’. A child sharing a suite with two adults will pay only R3400. The tour price for the 8-day package is R15000 per couple. More info

Pretoria area: Friends of the Rail
